CHANDLER, Ariz. -- The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its 2008 Division III National Academic Team Award winners and Washington and Lee was among those honored.
The National Academic Team Award honors those teams who have a collective GPA of 3.0 or higher during the first semester of the 2008-09 academic year. The Generals were among 97 Division III schools honored and were one of three ODAC schools to appear on the list (Eastern Mennonite & Lynchurg).
As a team, the Generals posted a 3.401 GPA during the fall term. Swarthmore College led all Division III field hockey teams with a 3.59 GPA, followed by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (3.53), Haverford College (3.51), Connecticut College (3.50) and MIT (3.50).
The W&L field hockey team finished last season with an overall record of 10-9, 5-2 ODAC, and advanced to the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament for the seventh-straight year.
