NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recently announced its Division III All-Region Athletes and Coaches of the Year and Washington and Lee women's head coach Nate Hoey was tabbed the South/Southeast Coach of the Year.
Hoey, who is in his sixth year as the Head Men's and Women's Track & Field Coach and Director of Running Programs at W&L, guided the women's squad to their first-ever first-place finish at the 2009 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships. The women produced five first-place marks, set two championship meet records and recorded one school record. Senior Elizabeth Webb (Middleburg, Va./Wakefield) was named the Co-Athlete of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while Hoey collected ODAC Coach of the Year honors.
The W&L women set 11 school records and had two athletes qualify for NCAA's this year. Webb and senior Stacy Doornbos (Roswell, Ga./Lassiter) will be competing at the Div. III National Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday and Saturday.
The NCAA Championships will be held on Friday and Saturday at the Rose-Hulman Sports and Recreation Center in Terre Haute, Ind. Doornbos will compete in the pentathlon on Friday at 9:00 am, while Webb will be running in the mile with the prelims to be held on Friday at 4:00 pm and the finals on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
