W&L Women's Track & Field Receives National Ranking

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Washington and Lee women's indoor track & field team was picked 15th in the February 4 edition of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III National Poll.

This is just the third time W&L has been ranked and the women currently own their highest ranking in program history.

Tufts, North Central, Illinois, University of Wisconsin, Ohio Northern, University of Rochester, St. Lawrence University, Augustana, Washington University and University of Wisconsin (Missouri) make up the Top 10, while State University College of Brockport, Johns Hopkins, Haverford, University of Wisconsin (Eau Claire) and Washington and Lee round out the Top 15. Fellow Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) member, Roanoke College, is tabbed 19th.

The Generals have had three meets so far this season. To date, W&L has set four school records and has had two athletes record NCAA-qualifying marks in the pentathlon. Senior Stacy Doornbos (Roswell, Ga./Lassiter) notched a first-place finish among Div. III athletes in the pentathlon with a school-record and NCAA-qualifying point total of 3,174 points at the Liberty Invitational, while junior Maggie Sutherland (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley) placed first among Div. III athletes and qualified for NCAA's in the pentathlon with a point total of 3,132 at the Bucknell Open & Multi's.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday at the VMI Relays. Events are slated to begin at 9:00 am.
