Two Generals Named to All-State Volleyball Team

DANVILLE, Va. -- The Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) announced its College Division All-State Volleyball Team on Friday morning and Washington and Lee had two selections to the first team.

Senior right side Jessica Ulrich (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) and junior outside hitter Rachael Phillips (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) were both named to the five-player first team.

Ulrich adds the honor to a season list that already includes First Team All-ODAC, First Team All-South Region and Honorable Mention All-America accolades. She was also selected the 2008 ODAC Tournament MVP.

Ulrich finished the season with 297 kills, 245 digs, 57 assists, 56 blocks, and 27 service aces, while also totaling a .325 hitting percentage. She completed her four seasons with 919 kills, 874 digs, 204 blocks and 165 service aces, ranking in the Top 15 all-time at W&L in each category.

Phillips was named the 2008 ODAC Player of the Year and was an Honorable Mention All-South Region selection. A 2007 Honorable Mention All-American, she led the team with 376 kills, while also posting a .240 hitting percentage. Additionally, she claimed 376 digs and 49 blocks. Phillips will enter her senior campaign with 919 career kills and 612 career digs.

Washington and Lee finished the 2008 campaign with a 31-7 overall record after falling to Mt. St. Joseph in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Generals went 10-0 in the ODAC and claimed their eighth-straight conference title.
