SHEEDY EARNS ODAC MEN’S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOD
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior goalkeeper Ted Sheedy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) has been named Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men’s soccer Player of the Week for the week ending September 24th.
Sheedy posted two shutouts last week to lead the Generals to a 2-0 week and maintain their undefeated start (6-0) to the season. He posted four saves in a 2-0 win over Bridgewater and registered fives saves in a 4-0 win over Hampden-Syndey. As W&L’s starting keeper, Sheedy has allowed only one goal all season, maintains a 0.20 goals-against-average and has not allowed a goal in his last 288:09 minutes.
Washington and Lee also had three athletes named to the ODAC Honor Roll for their respective sports. Sophomore goalkeeper Kiki Moreo (Westport, Conn./Staples) was chosen for women’s soccer, senior libero Lauren Edmonson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) was selected for volleyball and junior goalkeeper Tara Rubenstein (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) was tabbed for field hockey.
Moreo picked up her fourth shutout of the season against ODAC-foe Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday as the Generals battled the Marlins to a 0-0 double-overtime tie. Through six games, she has not yet to allow a goal.
While competing at the Emory Tournament in Atlanta, Ga., Edmonson became just the eighth General to surpass 1,000 career digs. She now ranks eighth all-time in career digs.
Rubenstein saved 14 shots as the Generals went 1-1 on the weekend, including a 2-0 win over then-ranked No. 16 Catholic. The Generals’ win over the Cardinals was not only their first win over CUA in program history, but also their first defeat of a nationally-ranked opponent.
