BOTH W&L CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS PICKED TO WIN ODAC CROWN

SALEM, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its coaches preseason cross country polls on Friday afternoon and both the W&L men's and women's teams were picked to win the league title.

The W&L men were followed by Lynchburg, Roanoke and Bridgewater, while the women sit ahead of Roanoke, Lynchburg and Eastern Mennonite.

The men must replace the exploits of two-time ODAC Runner of the Year Nathan Johnson '05, but return a stable of title contenders, including sophomore First Team All-ODAC selection Michael Welsh (Tullahoma, Tenn./Tullahoma), junior Second Team All-ODAC honoree Andrew Friski (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) and sophomore Second Team All-ODAC honoree Vance Berry (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Episcopal).

The women return four of their top five runners from 2005 headlined by ODAC Runner and Rookie of the Year Jackie Burns (Burke, Va./Woodward Academy). Junior Lindsay Erickson (Silver Spring, Md./Stone Ridge) also returns after earning First Team All-ODAC laurels in 2005 and ODAC Runner and Rookie of the Year honors in 2005. Sophomore Becca Taylor (Hamilton, Ohio/Edgewood) will again be one of the team's top runners after garnering First Team All-ODAC accolades during her initial season with the Generals, while senior Jenny Ratzel (Elm Grove, Wisc./Brookfield East) returns to the fold after posting Second Team All-ODAC honors a season ago.

The Generals will begin their defense of both the men's and women's ODAC titles by hosting the W&L Invitational on Sat., Sept. 9.
