LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Bluegrass Mountain Conference (BMC) recently announced its all-conference men's swimming team and Washington and Lee had 11 swimmers selected to the first team.
Seniors Dave Croushore (Glen Allen, Va./North Penn), Mike Ginder
(Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal) and Kevin Hayes (Mercer Island,
juniors Tim McGlaston (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) and Alex Sweet (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day), sophomores Paul Crook (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell) and Brett Tatman (Marietta, Ga./George Walton), and freshmen Dan Austin (Terrace Park, Ohio/Mariemont), Brandon Barnds (Mission Hills, Kan./Shawnee), Jonathan Giesen (Hoover, Ala./Paul Laurence Dunbar) and Winston Stagg (Midlothian, Va./Maggie Walker Governor's School) were each First Team All-BMC picks.
Ginder, Croushore, McGlaston and Sweet swam on two conference-champion relays (200 free, 400 free), while the team of Ginder, Croushore, Hayes and McGlaston swam on the winning 200 medley relay at the BMC championship meet. The 800 free relay team of Barnds, Sweet, Crook and Tatman placed second to earn all-conference honors, while Hayes, Sweet, Ginder, and Stagg earned first team honors for their second-place finish in the 400 medley relay.
Individually, Crook, Tatman and Austin earned first-team honors with their first-, second- and third-place finishes in the 500 free, respectively. Giesen placed second in the 1650 free to earn all-conference accolades, while Ginder was the conference champion in both the 200 free and the 200 back. Hayes took both the 200 and 400 IMs at the championship meet, while McGlaston was second in the 50 free to earn All-BMC honors. Stagg placed third in the 200 fly and Sweet was second in the 100 free to round out the all-conference selections.
The Washington and Lee men's team posted a 10-2 record during the regular season en route to earning its fourth-straight Bluegrass Mountain Championship. The men will continue the 2006-07 season at the NCAA Division III Championships held in Houston, Texas from March 15-17.
