GLEN ALLEN, Va. -- The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced Tuesday its 2006 National Academic Squad and National Academic Team Awards. The Washington and Lee field hockey team was well represented on the National Academic Squad, with 10 honorees, while the entire squad also received a National Academic Team Award.

Seniors Amy Volkmann (Norfolk, Va./Granby) and Rebecca Hatchett (Newport News, Va./Hampton Roads), juniors Tara Rubenstein (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) and Laura Nugent (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), sophomores Louise Bance (Manakin-Sabot, Va./St. Catherine's) and Melissa Dolan (Centennial, Colo./Kent Denver) and freshmen Nicole Allaband (Elkton, Md./Rising Sun), Alex Caritis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy), Caroline Habliston (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) and Stephanie Mansey (Mendham, N.J./Randolph) were all tabbed to the National Academic Squad.

The National Academic Squad program recognizes collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2006-07 academic year. The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieve a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2006-07 academic year.

Washington and Lee finished the 2006 season with a 14-6 overall record and a 7-1 mark in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Generals advanced to the ODAC Tournament Semifinals for the fifth-straight season before falling to Eastern Mennonite.
