WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RECEIVES ACADEMIC HONOR

METAIRIE, La. -- The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recently released its 2006 Division III All-Academic Cross Country Teams and the Washington and Lee women's cross country team garnered the accolade. Additionally, sophomore Becca Taylor (Hamilton, Ohio/Edgewood) and freshman Kat Telfeyan (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) earned individual honors.

The Washington and Lee women's cross country team joins 111 other Division III women's cross country teams that achieved a cumulative team grade-point-average (GPA) of 3.1 or better, while Taylor and Telfeyan were among 185 individuals who owned a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better.

Taylor, the 2006 ODAC Scholar-Athlete, earns Division III All-Academic honors for the second-straight year. Telfeyan pockets the individual honor after a freshman campaign that included winning the ODAC Rookie of the Year award. Both Taylor and Telfeyan were All-ODAC, All-State and All-Region selections, while Telfeyan competed at the 2006 NCAA DIII Championships.

The Washington and Lee women's cross country team won its third-straight conference championship in 2006 and returns all of its runners for the 2007 fall season.
