SALEM, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) announced its weekly conference awards and Washington and Lee garnered the Pitcher and Hitter of the week for baseball and the Player of the Week in women's lacrosse.
Senior shortstop Ray Sweeney (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) was tabbed as the ODAC Hitter of the Week, while senior righthander Clayton Edwards (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) was named ODAC Pitcher of Week. Sophomore attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) was selected for women's lacrosse.
Sweeney helped lead the W&L baseball team to a 5-0 week by going 5-for-12 at the plate with a double, two homeruns and eight RBI. Sweeney went 1-for-2 with three RBI and clocked his first career homerun in a 16-14 victory over Emory & Henry on Saturday. He followed that with a three-run homerun in a 15-7 victory over Mount Aloysius on Sunday. For the season, Sweeney has started all 10 games, is batting .267 and is second on the team with 10 RBI.
Edwards picked up his second win of the season by hurling a complete-game shutout in a 6-0 win over Emory & Henry on Saturday. He tallied 11 strikeouts and allowed only four hits in the win. He also helped W&L on offense, going 4-for-9 with four RBI over four games. So far this spring, Edwards owns a 2.19 ERA, has recorded a team-best 14 strikeouts and is batting .320.
Robinson notched four points in each of the 11th-ranked Generals' wins last week to preserve their undefeated start (4-0). She tallied two goals and two assists as W&L opened ODAC action with an 11-4 win over Roanoke on Wednesday. She then added four points (3g, 1a) in a 13-7 win over Randolph-Macon on Saturday. Thus far this year, Robinson leads the Blue and White with 13 points on nine goals and four assists.
