LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee University golf team is listed eighth in the Golfstat Division III rankings heading into the spring season.
Methodist College sits atop the rankings and is followed by Guilford, Huntingdon, Whitworth, Transylvania, Oglethorpe, Rhodes, W&L, Wisconsin-Eau Claire and St. John's (Minn.).
The Generals are coming off a fall season in which they posted a 306.1 team stroke average and won the Randolph-Macon Ted Keller Invitational.
Junior Nathaniel James (Keller, Texas/Keller) leads the way for the Generals after winning two of the team's four tournaments during the fall season. A Third Team All-American last season, James averaged 73.9 strokes over nine rounds during the fall. Freshman Joe Gibson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) was also a tournament medalist during the fall, having won the Greensboro Invitational with a 70-69--139. Gibson averaged 79.6 strokes over seven rounds.
Washington and Lee opens the spring season on March 12-13 as it competes in the Barton College Intercollegiate held at the Wilson Country Club in Wilson, N.C.
