SALEM, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) announced its weekly conference awards for the week ending March 18 and Washington and Lee received the player of the week for men's and women's tennis and the golfer of the week.
Sophomore Jamie McCardell (Cornwall, Vt./Episcopal) was named the men's tennis player of the week, while senior Ginny Wortham (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) was tabbed as the women's tennis player of the week. Senior Matt Leisman (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) was selected as the golfer of the week.
McCardell helped Washington and Lee extend its winning streak to 10-straight matches in wins over Virginia Wesleyan, Bridgewater and Eastern Mennonite. He went 2-0 at No. 3 and No. 4 singles and was 2-1 at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. For the season, McCardell is 11-5 in singles play and 11-4 while playing with numerous doubles partners.
Wortham went 4-0 last week as the third-ranked Generals improved to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the ODAC. In a 9-0 win over Roanoke, she tallied wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles and picked up two victories in a win over 11th-ranked Mary Washington by winning at No. 2 singles and No. 3 doubles. On the season, Wortham owns a 10-2 record in both singles and doubles and ranks seventh in singles in the Atlantic South Region.
Leisman helped lead Washington and Lee to a fourth-place finish at the Barton College Intercollegiate by finishing as the tournament runner-up. Leisman fired a three-over-par score of 74-73—147 to take runner-up honors. For the season, Leisman has played seven rounds and is third on the team with a 77.0 scoring average.
