TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Washington and Lee junior Alex Sweet (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) has been named the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Co-Men's Swimmer of the Week for the week ending December 2.
Sweet received the award following a record-setting weekend at the NIKE Open hosted by Kenyon College on Nov. 30 - Dec. 2. He had a hand in setting three new school records, including breaking the school's second-oldest standing record on Saturday when he recorded an NCAA "A" cut time of 45.30 in the 100 freestyle, breaking Mike Bernot's time of 45.85 that had stood since the 1982 season.
Additionally, Sweet notched a "B" cut in the 50 freestyle (21.13) and was part of the 200 freestyle relay that produced a "B" cut time of 1:23.23.
Sweet was also part of the 800 freestyle relay team that set a school record and swam an NCAA "A" cut time of 6:46.67 and he swam on the 400 freestyle relay team that set a pool and school record with an NCAA "B" cut time of 3:04.14.
Matej Tomas of Fairmont State also received the men's weekly award, while Johns Hopkins' Allie Foster was selected for the women's award.
Washington and Lee is currently 7-0 and returns to action on Sat., Jan. 13 at Wingate for an 11:00 am meet.
