LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Washington and Lee senior libero Lauren Edmonson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-South Region team as a first-team selection.
Edmonson was one of 12 players from the NCAA South Region named to the first team and will now be placed on the national ballot for All-America consideration.
A two-year team captain and four-year letterwinner for the Generals, Edmonson garnered the award for the first time in her career after receiving First Team All-ODAC honors each of the past two seasons.
Edmonson was named to the first team after setting a new school record with 599 digs thus far in 2006. She has played in 110 of the team's 155 games and also claims 59 service aces this season. For her career, Edmonson ranks fourth all-time at W&L with 187 service aces and fifth all-time with 1,469 digs. She can become the all-time digs leader with 89 more digs.
Washington and Lee was awarded the ODAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will play in the New York Regional hosted by Stevens Tech in Hoboken, N.J. The Generals face Vassar (25-11) in the opening round on Thursday at 1:00 pm.
