VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Seven members of the ODAC Champion Washington and Lee football team have been selected to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III team, which was released on Thursday afternoon.
Senior wide receiver D.J. Hackett (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Academy), senior tight end Ryan Neff (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud), senior linebacker Chris Joseph (Houston, Texas/Episcopal), senior defensive lineman Walker Williams (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin), junior defensive backs Kyle Luby (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) and Mark Snoddy (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) and junior linebacker Kyle Harvey (Columbia, S.C./Richland Northeast) were all named to the 23-member first team. Each will now be eligible for Academic All-America honors.
A biology major, Hackett has started all nine games this season and claims six catches for 99 yards and three touchdowns.
Neff was named to the first team for the second season in a row. A business administration major, he has started eight games this season and has recorded 11 catches for 101 yards.
A business and spanish major, Joseph has played in all nine games this fall and has notched 35 tackles, including 2.5 stops for a loss.
Williams has started all nine contests this season and has recorded 46 tackles, including 6.5 tackles for a loss. The economics major also claims one interception and one sack.
Luby has started all nine games in 2006 and ranks second on the team with 57 tackles. An economics major, the two-time All-ODAC selection has also tallied two interceptions and one fumble recovery.
Snoddy was named to the first team for the second-straight season. A chemistry major, he has started all nine games, recording 22 tackles and ranking third in Division III with eight interceptions. He also ranks third nationally with 18 passes defended and has tied the W&L career interceptions record (16) this season. Snoddy was a First Team All-ODAC honoree in 2005.
A biology major, Harvey has played in all nine games this season, recording 56 tackles, including 4.0 tackles for a loss. He also has one sack and returned an interception 47 yards for a touchdown in a win over Emory & Henry on Nov. 4.
The criteria for the CoSIDA Academic All-District program states that a player must be of sophomore academic standing, be a starter or important reserve and claim a GPA of at least 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. Washington and Lee is a member of District III, which includes players from small colleges in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
