SALEM, Va. -- Washington and Lee garnered the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Golfer of the Week, Runner of the Week in women's cross country and Player of the Week in women's soccer for the week ending October 15.
Junior Nathaniel James (Keller, Texas/Keller) received the nod from the ODAC as Golfer of the Week, while sophomore Jackie Burns (Burke, Va./Woodward Academy) received the ODAC Runner of the Week for women's cross country. Sophomore forward Anne Van Devender (Jackson, Miss/Choate Rosemary Hall) was honored as women's soccer POW.
A junior from Keller, Texas, James helped lead the W&L golf team to a third-place finish at the Transylvania Invitational over the weekend by finishing as the individual medalist. James carded a 79-71--150 in winning his second tournament of the fall season. A Third Team All-American last season, James is currently averaging 72.3 strokes over six rounds played this fall.
Burns earns ODAC Runner of the Week for the third time this season after finishing third in a time of 23:06.57 to lead W&L to a fourth-place finish at the Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday. The 2005 ODAC Rookie and Runner of the Year, she has been the top finisher for the Generals in all of the meets she has competed in this season.
Van Devender helped lead the 18th-ranked Generals to a trio of shutout wins last week by amassing three goals and an assist. Her season totals of 17 goals and 10 assists rank in the top four all-time at W&L in a season. The Blue & White own a 12-0-2 record and are one of two teams in Division III who have yet to concede a goal in 2006.
