W&L FIELD HOCKEY PICKED THIRD IN ODAC PRESEASON POLL

SALEM, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) released its field hockey preseason coaches poll on Thursday and Washington and Lee was picked third among the conference's nine teams.

W&L earned 67 points and received three first place votes to place third in the poll. Lynchburg took the top spot with 73 points and three first place votes. Defending champion Virginia Wesleyan was second with 69 points and three first place votes.

The Generals went 9-9 overall and 6-3 in the ODAC last season. They advanced to the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament for the third consecutive season before falling to Virginia Wesleyan, 2-0.

W&L opens up the 2005 season at Johns Hopkins on Saturday, September 10. The game begins at 5:00 pm.
