LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Mike Walsh has announced the appointment of Brett Beard as intern assistant football coach. Beard will work with the Generals' running backs and tight ends.
Beard is a 2003 graduate of Vanderbilt University, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in human and organizational development. A four-year member of the Commodores' football team as a defensive lineman, he was selected to the 2002 SEC "Good Works" team and was named the team's defensive player of the week on three occasions.
Beard completed his eligibility at Southeastern Louisiana University during the 2003 season while working towards a master's degree in kinesiology. A team captain, he garnered First Team All-America and Second Team All-Louisiana honors, and was a participant in the 2004 Hula Bowl.
Following his collegiate career, Beard signed a free agent contract with the Indianapolis Colts and participated in training camp before spending the 2004-05 school year as a teacher, assistant football coach, and assistant baseball coach at Franklinton High School in Louisiana.
Additionally, Beard has served strength and conditioning internships with the Tennessee Titans and Vanderbilt University.
