PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The Washington and Lee men's and women's swimming teams were named to the Swimming World Magazine National Academic Team. The men were one of 42 teams to be honored, while the women were one of 59 squads.
The men had a team grade-point average (GPA) of 3.15. Washington University earned the top spot with a team GPA of 3.49, while Macalester College (3.45), Pomona-Pitzer (3.41), Emory (3.36) and University of St. Thomas (3.32) rounded out the Top-5.
The women recorded a team GPA of 3.33 and were one of three ODAC schools to be honored, joining Sweet Briar and Randolph-Macon. Macalester College (3.60) had the highest GPA and the rest of the Top-5 were Pomona-Pitzer (3.54), College of St. Catherine (3.47), Sweet Briar (3.46) and Whitworth College (3.45).
The W&L men finished the season with a 6-1 overall record, claimed their third straight Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championship and placed 14th out of 53 teams at the NCAA Division III Championships. The W&L women notched a 10-5 overall record (6-0 ODAC) and won their 13th consecutive ODAC Championship.
