SALEM, Va. -- Washington and Lee swept the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors for the week ending March 12. Freshman Stacy Doornbos (Roswell, Ga./Lassiter) was named the women's athlete of the week, while freshman Drew Martin (Maumelle, Ark./Little Rock Christian) claimed the men's honor.
Doornbos, a three-time winner of the award during the indoor season, helped the Generals finish first out of six teams at the season-opening W&L Invitational on Saturday. She won three individual events, one relay race and set a school record. Doornbos captured the 200 meters in a school-record time of 26.77, while also placing first in the long jump (15’10.00”) and the 100 meters (13.16). She also teamed up with junior Huntley Rodes (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) and freshmen Caroline Davis (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and Tara Hildenbrand (Castroville, Texas/Medina Valley) to win the 4x100 meter relay in a time of 52.46. For her efforts, Doornbos was named the Athlete of the Meet.
Martin's performance helped W&L to a second place finish among six squads at the W&L Invitational. He won the pole vault by clearing a height of 13'6.00".
Washington and Lee will be back in action on Saturday at the Roanoke Invitational beginning at 10:00 am.
