SALEM, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its 2006 preseason golf coaches poll on Thursday morning and Washington and Lee was picked to finish third among the league's nine golf playing schools.
Defending National Champion Guilford College was picked first after receiving all nine first-place votes and 81 points. Randolph-Macon, last year's ODAC Champion, was picked to finish second with 64 points, followed by W&L (63), Hampden-Sydney (57), Bridgewater (50), Virginia Wesleyan (33), Lynchburg (24), Roanoke (24) and Emory & Henry (9).
The Generals are coming off a fine fall season which saw them win the Virginia Division III Intercollegiate Championship in October. Sophomore Nathaniel James (Keller, Texas/Keller), a First Team All-ODAC choice in 2005, enters the spring with a 72.0 stroke average after playing eight rounds during the fall. He won three of the team's four invitationals played during the fall, including the Virginia Intercollegiate Championship.
Washington and Lee begins the spring portion of its schedule on Mar. 13-14 at the Lee Nissan-Barton College Intercollegiate in Wilson, N.C.
