GLADYSZ NAMED ODAC VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR
EMORY, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its all-conference volleyball team on Friday and Washington and Lee had several players honored.
Senior setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) was named the league's Player of the Year for the second straight season, while freshman outside hitter Laura Maurer (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) was named the Freshman of the Year. Additionally, Head Coach Bryan Snyder was named the Coach of the Year for the fifth straight campaign. Gladysz, junior libero Lauren Edmonson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) and senior middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) were all named First Team All-ODAC, Maurer posted Second Team All-ODAC accolades, and freshman middle blocker Laurel Stewart (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) added Honorable Mention All-ODAC honors.
Gladysz earned First Team All-ODAC laurels for the third straight season and entered the ODAC Tournament with a league-best 1,207 assists. She has also notched 297 digs, 97 kills, 75 blocks and 59 service aces. A two-time Third Team All-America honoree, Gladysz became the ODAC's career leader in assists (5,077) earlier this fall.
Maurer was named Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-ODAC by leading the team with 346 kills. Her 4.27 kills per game rank 29th in Division III while her .305 hitting percentage is among the conference leaders. She has also recorded 114 digs, 29 blocks and 15 service aces.
Edmonson garnered First Team All-ODAC recognition as a libero. She leads the team with 445 digs and also tops the squad with 71 service aces.
Gaillard was named to the First Team for the third consecutive season after being named Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-ODAC as a freshman. She has tallied 276 kills a team-best 94 blocks, 77 digs and 27 service aces, and ranks 16th nationally with a .403 hitting percentage.
Stewart received Honorable Mention All-ODAC status by posting 182 kills, 66 blocks, 39 digs and 18 service aces. She also leads the team with a .405 hitting percentage.
Washington and Lee (30-4) will be gunning for its fifth straight ODAC title at this weekend's ODAC Tournament held at Emory & Henry College.
