DELAWARE, Ohio -- Washington and Lee placed two players on the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-District III Women's Soccer team which was announced recently.
Senior defender Heather Rogers (Atlanta, Ga./Lovett School) and senior midfielder Gina Von Sternberg (Houston, Texas/Episcopal) were both named to the second team.
Rogers, a mathematics major, is a key member of the Generals' defense that allowed a school-record eight goals in 18 games and posted a school-record 12 shutouts this season. As a junior, Rogers earned First Team All-ODAC and ODAC All-Tournament team honors. She was also named Honorable Mention All-ODAC and to the ODAC All-Tournament team as a sophomore.
Von Sternberg, a business administration and accounting major, finished fourth on the team in scoring with 14 points on five goals and four assists. She earned First Team All-ODAC honors as a junior and garnered Second Team All-ODAC, ODAC Rookie of the Year, ODAC All-Tournament team, First Team All-State and NSCAA Second Team All-South Region accolades as a freshman.
The Generals, who lost to Lynchburg in the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament, concluded the season with a 13-2-3 overall record and a 9-0-2 mark in the ODAC.
The criteria for the CoSIDA Academic All-District program states that a player must be of sophomore academic standing, be a starter or important reserve, and claim a GPA of at least a 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. Washington and Lee is a member of District III, including players from small colleges in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
