SALEM, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women’s basketball team was picked to finish fifth out of 11 teams in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll which was released on Thursday afternoon at the conference’s media day.
Defending conference champion and national runner-up Randolph-Macon sits atop the poll after receiving all 11 first-place votes. Bridgewater was picked second, followed by Roanoke, Emory & Henry, W&L, Virginia Wesleyan, Eastern Mennonite, Guilford, Lynchburg, Hollins and Randolph-Macon Woman's College.
The Generals finished the 2003-04 season with a 13-13 overall record and a 9-11 mark in the ODAC. W&L returns four starters this season, including a pair of All-ODAC selections in senior guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) and junior center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./Orme School).
Feve averaged 13.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.9 steals per game, and became the fifth player in school history to record 1,000 career points (1,003). She was named Honorable Mention All-ODAC for the second straight season.
Hunsinger contributed 13.6 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game in earning Second Team All-ODAC accolades.
W&L also returns its leading scorer in sophomore forward Kristen Krouchick (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy), who averaged 14.1 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, and sophomore forward Amanda Kane (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson), who averaged 6.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per outing.
The Generals begin the 2005-06 season on Nov. 19-20 as they compete in the Swarthmore Tournament. W&L opens with Swarthmore on Nov. 19 at 4:00 pm.
