LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee freshman running back Stuart Sitterson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) and sophomore wide receiver Jack Martin (Princeton, N.J./Hun School) have been named to the Don Hansen Football Gazette Division III Football All-America team.
Sitterson garnered second team honors as a kick returner, while Martin was tabbed to the honorable mention squad as a wide receiver.
Sitterson played in all 10 games for the Generals, notching 1,185 yards and nine total touchdowns. He was also named to the D3Football.com First Team All-South Region and First Team All-America teams and was tabbed First Team All-State by the Virginia SID Association and Roanoke Times.
Sitterson returned 12 kickoffs for 408 yards and two touchdowns, and also returned 31 punts for 383 yards and another score. Sitterson ranked No. 1 in Division III in kickoff return average (34.0 ypr.) and 29th in Division III in punt return average (12.4 ypr.). Additionally, his two kickoff returns for a touchdown and punt return for a touchdown both tied school records for a season. As a running back, Sitterson amassed 296 yards and six touchdowns on 73 carries. He also caught 15 passes for 98 yards.
Martin shattered the school’s receiving records en route to posting VaSID First Team All-State, Roanoke Times First Team All-State, Second Team All-ODAC and Second Team All-South Region honors. He was also the runner-up for the Dudley Award which is presented to the Virginia College Division Player of the Year. Martin caught 70 passes for a school-record 1,353 yards and 15 touchdowns during the 2005 season. His 135.3 receiving yards ranked third in Division III, while his 7.0 receptions per game ranked 19th. His 15 touchdowns marked the second-highest season total in school history, and his 90 points rank third all-time for a season at W&L.
Washington and Lee finished the 2005 season with a 7-3 overall record and a 4-2 mark in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Generals posted their highest win total in 20 years and tied for second in the ODAC standings.
