HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its preseason football poll at the conference's football media day on Friday, July 30 on the campus of Hampden-Sydney College.

Washington and Lee was picked to finish in a tie for sixth overall of the league's seven football playing institutions in voting conducted by the conference's coaches.

Bridgewater received the most first place votes and are the favorite to win the conference title for a fourth straight season.

Hampden-Sydney was picked to finish second followed by Emory & Henry, Catholic, Randolph-Macon, Washington and Lee and Guilford.

W&L went 3-7 overall last season and finished in a tie for sixth place with Guilford, sporting a 1-5 conference mark.

The Generals return 12 starters to the fold in 2004, seven on offense, four on defense and one specialist. Leading the way will be senior linebacker Lloyd Wilson (Austin, Texas/Stephen F. Austin) who led the team with 92 total tackles and two sacks last season. Senior wide receiver Taylor Callaham (Owings Mills, Md./McDonogh) also returns after catching 73 balls for 953 yards and eight touchdowns in his first three seasons.

Washington and Lee opens its season on September 11 as it travels to Alfred for a 1:00 pm contest.
