W&L FIELD HOCKEY PICKED THIRD IN ODAC PRESEASON POLL

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) released its field hockey preseason poll on Thursday and Washington and Lee was picked third among the conference's 10 teams.

W&L earned 76 points and one first place vote to place third in the poll. Virginia Wesleyan took the top spot with 90 points and six first place votes. Defending champion Eastern Mennonite was second with 84 points and one first place vote.

The Generals went 10-9 overall and 6-3 in the ODAC last season. They advanced to the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament for the second consecutive season before falling to Eastern Mennonite, 5-0.

W&L opens up the 2004 season at home against Johns Hopkins on Saturday, September 11. The game begins at 1:00 pm.
