LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's volleyball team received 27 points to rank 26th overall in the College Sports Television (CSTV)/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Preseason Poll released on Wednesday.
The Generals, whose previous highest ranking was No. 27 in 2001, were the top team in the other receiving votes. Washington University (Mo.) garnered the top spot with 386 points and 12 first place votes. New York University was second with 373 points and three first place votes and Juniata College placed third with 371 points and the final first place vote.
W&L, the three-time defending Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament champions, earned the top spot in the ODAC preseason poll released on Tuesday.
The Generals enter 2004 with five returning starters from last
season and have three-time ODAC Coach of the Year Bryan Snyder at
the reigns. W&L is also riding a 31-match winning streak
against ODAC foes.
W&L opens up the 2004 season against Catholic University in the opening round of the Washington and Lee Invitational on Friday, September 10th. The match begins at 4:00 pm.
