W&L WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD PICKED THIRD, MEN FOURTH IN ODAC PRESEASON POLL

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) released its indoor track & field preseason poll on Friday afternoon and the Washington and Lee women's team was picked third, while the men's team was ranked fourth among the six teams in the conference.

The women's team received 21 points on one first place vote to place third. Two-time defending conference champion Lynchburg (26 points, three first place votes) and Roanoke (25 points, one first place vote) garnered the top two spots.

The men's team earned 17 points to garner the number four spot. The top three teams are seven-time defending conference champion Lynchburg (30 points, four first place votes), Bridgewater (26 points, one first place vote), and Roanoke (18 points).

Both teams finished fourth at the 2003-04 ODAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. At last year's meet, junior Betsy Frayer (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) earned All-ODAC honors by winning the two-mile run in a time of 12:13:13. For the men, senior Chris Walker (Franklin, Mass./Paul VI) earned all-conference accolades in two events. He won the weight throw (49 feet, 4 1/4 inches) while placing second in the shot put (43 feet,, 11 3/4 inches).

Washington and Lee opens up the season on Sat., Dec. 4 at the VMI Invitational. The meet begins at 10:00 am.
