THREE GENERALS NAMED TO ALL-STATE FIELD HOCKEY TEAM

SALEM, Va. -- Three members of the Washington and Lee field hockey team were selected to the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) College Division All-State Field Hockey Team, which was announced Monday afternoon.

Sophomore defender Rebecca Hatchett (Newport News, Va./Hampton Roads) was named to the first team, while senior midfielder Kitt Murphy (New York, N.Y./St. Catherines) and junior midfielder Jane Beall (Richmond, Va./James River) were tabbed to the honorable mention team.

Hatchett was named to the all-state team for the first time after garnering First Team All-ODAC recognition this season. She started 17 of the team's 18 games, spearheading a defense which recorded five shutouts and allowed an average of just 1.61 goals per game.

Murphy was named to the all-state team for the third time in her career after being named Second Team All-ODAC earlier this season. Murphy started all 18 games, finishing second on the team in scoring with 22 points coming on nine goals and four assists. She finished her career ranked second at W&L in career assists (15) and third in career goals (19) and career points (53).

Beall earned her first selection to the all-state squad after posting Honorable Mention All-ODAC accolades earlier in the season. She led the team in scoring (31), goals (12) and assists (7) during the 2004 campaign, and enters her senior season ranked first all-time at W&L with 16 career assists. She is also ranked second in career goals (26) and career points (68). Beall can take over the W&L career scoring mark with five more points.

Washington and Lee finished the 2004 season with a 9-9 overall record, 6-3 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Generals advanced to the ODAC Semifinals for the third straight season before falling to eventual champion, Virginia Wesleyan, by a score of 2-0.
