LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior defender Kelley Zagol (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) was one of 11 players named to the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-District III First Team in women's soccer.
Zagol, who also earned first team honors as a junior, is a neuroscience major with a 3.588 grade-point average. On the soccer field, she has tallied 14 points on six goals and two assists this season. She is also an anchor of the Generals' defense which has allowed just 13 goals in 16 games and has shutout nine opponents.
Last season, Zagol garnered First Team All-ODAC, First Team All-State, First Team NSCAA All-South Region and Second Team NSCAA All-America accolades. As a sophomore, she was named Second Team All-ODAC and NSCAA First Team All-South Region. She was an Honorable Mention All-ODAC selection and was named to the All-ODAC Tournament Team as a freshman.
Zagol, who has helped W&L to back-to-back ODAC Championships, leads the third-seeded Generals into the ODAC Tournament semifinals where they will play second-seeded Virginia Wesleyan at 2:00 pm on Saturday at Lynchburg College. W&L enters the game with an 11-3-3 record.
The criteria for the CoSIDA Academic All-District program states that a player must be of sophomore academic standing, be a starter or important reserve and claim a GPA of at-least 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. Washington and Lee is a member of District III, including players from small colleges in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
