SALEM, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's basketball team was picked to finish seventh out of 10 teams in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll which was released on Thursday afternoon at the conference's media day.
Randolph-Macon sits atop the poll after receiving eight first-place votes. Virginia Wesleyan was picked second with one first-place vote, while defending league champion Hampden-Sydney was chosen third with one first-place vote. Bridgewater was fourth, followed by Roanoke, Lynchburg, W&L, Emory & Henry, Guilford and Eastern Mennonite.
W&L enters the 2004-05 season with three returning starters, including its top four scorers. Sophomore guard Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood) is back after leading the team in scoring (11.1 ppg.) and finishing second in rebounding (4.4 rpg.).
The Generals have also added nine new players to last season's squad which finished 7-18 overall, 5-13 in the ODAC. W&L opens its season on Nov. 20-21 as it participates in the NYU Tip-Off Tournament.
