VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Five members of the Washington and Lee football team have been selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District III team which was released on Thursday afternoon.
Senior offensive lineman Zack Taylor (Reston, Va./Thomas
Jefferson), senior linebacker Wes Kimmel (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace
Greely), junior wide receiver Clark Kensinger (Columbia,
S.C./Oakwood), junior defensive lineman Liam Murray (Oneonta,
N.Y./Oneonta) and junior defensive back Stuart Swann (Macon,
Ga./Woodberry Forest) were all named to the 21-member first team.
Each will now be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America
Taylor is an accounting major with a 3.57 cumulative grade-point average (GPA). He is part of an offensive line which has allowed just 20 sacks in 337 pass attempts. A two-year starter, he is an ODAC and Washington and Lee Scholar-Athlete.
Kimmel earned a selection to the Academic All-District team for the second straight season after compiling a 3.79 GPA as a history and economics major. He has played in all nine games, recording 19 tackles, 12 of which are solo stops.
Kensinger was named to the first team after posting a 3.76 GPA as a chemistry major. He has played in all nine games this season, recording 18 catches for 126 yards and two touchdowns.
Murray is a history major with a 3.51 GPA. He has played in all nine games and is second on the team with 61 tackles. He also claims 12 tackles for a loss and three sacks.
Swann has started all nine games at safety, posting 42 tackles, two sacks, four pass breakups, two blocked punts and returned a fumble for a touchdown. He claims a 3.57 GPA as a history and economics major.
The criteria for the CoSIDA Academic All-District program states that a player must be of sophomore academic standing, be a starter or important reserve and claim a GPA of at-least 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. Washington and Lee is a member of District III, including players from small colleges in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
