W&L MEN'S SOCCER PICKED FOURTH IN ODAC PRESEASON POLL

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's soccer team was picked to finish fourth in the preseason ODAC Coaches Poll, which was released Wednesday morning.

Roanoke sits atop the poll with 11 points, including nine first-place votes. They are followed by Viginia Wesleyan (26), Hampden-Sydney (32, one first-place vote) and W&L (33). Rounding out the rankings are Eastern Mennonite (60), Randolph-Macon (64), Guilford (66), Lynchburg (75), Emory & Henry (91), and Bridgewater (92).

Last year, the Generals (12-4-1) finished as the ODAC runner-up following a 3-2 loss to Roanoke in the tournament championship game.

The Generals return a strong nucleus, headed by senior co-captain Brad Murphy (Mantoloking, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy), a First Team All-ODAC selection last year at forward. Senior goalie Tim Foley (Darnestown, Md./Georgetown Prep) and junior forward Jacob Stoehr (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) also return after earning All-ODAC honors last year.

W&L kicks off its season on the road at the Southwestern Tournament in Texas. The Generals will face Trinity University in the opening round on Sept. 7 at noon. Their home opener is Sat., Oct. 5 against Randolph-Macon.
