LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior offensive lineman Mat Rapoza (Kill Devil Hills, N.C./Manteo) was selected to the D3Football.com Preseason First Team All-America squad which was announced on Monday afternoon.

Rapoza earned First Team All-America honors from D3Football.com following the 2001 season and was a second team selection by the website following his sophomore season in 2000.

In addition to garnering All-America honors from D3Football.com in 2001, Rapoza also received First Team All-ODAC, First Team All-State and Second Team All-Region accolades. He was part of a W&L offensive line which paved the way for 1,825 yards on the ground and surrendered just 10 sacks in 276 passing situations.

Bridgewater offensive lineman Michael Day, Emory & Henry defensive lineman Jelani Patterson, Guilford return man Chris McKinney and Hampden-Sydney placekicker Doug Van Der Mallie were other ODAC players honored on the D3Football.com Preseason All-America Team. Day and McKinney were first team picks, while Patterson and Van Der Mallie were named to the second team.

Washington and Lee finished the 2001 season with a 5-5 overall record. The Generals were 3-3 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, tying for second place. W&L returns nine starters on offense and eight starters on defense for the 2002 campaign.
