LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior pitcher Peter Dean (Vienna, Va./James Madison) was placed on the Second Team Verizon Academic All-America College Division Baseball squad which was announced on Tuesday.

Dean, who is a pre-med major, currently carries a cumulative 3.61 grade-point average.

Dean went 8-2 on the mound this season for W&L. His eight wins were a team-best total, as were his ERA (1.67), strikeouts (73) and innings pitched (80.2). A First Team All-Old Dominion Conference and All-South Region selection, Dean is currently W&L's all-time leader in ERA (2.14) and his 20-5 record leaves him just three wins shy of tying the all-time program mark.

The Generals were 28-8 this season and finished as the runner-up in the ODAC Tournament.

Dean is W&L's 32nd GTE/Verizon Academic All-America selection and the second this season. Senior football player John Melillo (Forney, Texas/Belle Plaine) earned first team honors this fall.

The Verizon Academic All-America College Division is comprised of all NCAA-member schools from Divisions II and III.
