W&L CLAIMS SIX ON ALL-ODAC MEN'S LACROSSE TEAM

SALEM, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its all-conference men's lacrosse team on Thursday afternoon. Washington and Lee claimed six players on the first, second or honorable mention squads.

Junior defenseman Lawson Grumbine (Owings Mills, Md./Gilman), junior midfielder Dustin Martin (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius), junior goalie Ansel Sanders (Weems, Va./Woodberry Forest) and senior defenseman Noah Weber (Yorktown, N.Y./Yorktown) were all placed on the first team. Senior defenseman Matt Conners (Burke, Va./Robinson) was named to the second team, while senior midfielder Tommy Melanson (Baltimore, Md./Loyola) and sophomore attackman Gavin Molinelli (Northport, N.Y./Northport) received the nod for the honorable mention team.

Roanoke senior attackman Andy Bonasera and Lynchburg freshman Scott McAlee was named the Rookie of the Year. The Hornets' Steve Koudelka was tabbed the ODAC Coach of the Year.

Grumbine earned his first selection to the All-ODAC team after helping the Generals' defense allow an average of just 5.85 goals per game, fourth-best in Division III. He has started all 13 games this season.

Martin also garnered his first selection to the All-ODAC team. Currently, he is second on the team in scoring with 29 points on 21 goals and eight assists.

Sanders was named to the first team after receiving second team honors a year ago. A preseason Honorable Mention All-American, Sanders has posted a .612 save percentage and 5.82 goals-against average, a total which ranks fifth in Division III.

Weber also earned his first all-conference selection after starting all 13 games on defense. Like Grumbine, he was a major factor in the Generals' allowing just 5.85 goals per game.

Conners earned second team honors after receiving First Team All-ODAC and Third Team All-America honors a year ago. He too has helped contribute to W&L's defensive efforts.

Melanson received honorable mention honors after earning second team laurels in 2002 and first team accolades in 2001. An Honorable Mention All-American a year ago and preseason First Team All-America selection, Melanson has notched eight goals and one assist while winning 57.7 percent (120-of 208) of his faceoffs.

Molinelli was also named to the Honorable Mention All-ODAC team after recording 15 goals and 12 assists.

Washington and Lee (9-4) hosts Limestone in its regular season finale on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm. The Generals will wait to see if they receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament on Sunday evening.
