LEXINGTON, Va. -- The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its All-South Region team on Thursday and Washington and Lee had one player honored on the team.
Freshman middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) was named to the honorable mention squad, one of 18 players tabbed to the first team or honorable mention teams.
Gaillard also earned ODAC Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-ODAC honors after starting all 40 matches for the Generals this season. She led the team in hitting percentage (.385) and was second on the team in kills (385) and blocks (106). Her hitting percentage was the second-highest season total in W&L history.
Washington and Lee ended the 2002 season with a school-record 32 wins against just eight losses. The Generals won the ODAC regular season with a 10-0 mark and claimed the ODAC Tournament Championship. W&L then advanced to the NCAA Division III South Region semifinals before falling to fourth-ranked Trinity University of Texas.
