W&L VOLLEYBALL EARNS NCAA TOURNAMENT BID

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team received the fourth seed and will face fifth-seeded Christopher Newport (24-7) on Thursday afternoon at 4:30 pm in the first round of the NCAA Division III South Regional held at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.

The winner of the match will then face top-seeded Trinity University of Texas in a regional semifinal on Friday at 4:30 pm.

The Generals (31-7) have faced Christopher Newport twice already this season, both resulting in CNU wins. W&L dropped a 21-30, 30-28, 30-25, 19-30, 15-12 decision to the Captains on Sept. 7, in Lexington, Va., then fell to CNU, 30-21, 27-30, 30-19, 28-30, 6-15, on Oct. 10, in Newport News, Va.

Trinity and second-seeded Emory University both received first round byes. East Texas Baptist claimed the third seed followed by W&L, CNU and Savannah College of Art & Design.

The Generals earned the automatic bid after claiming the Old Dominion Athletic Conference title on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Bridgewater. W&L concluded its regular season with a school-record 31 wins.
