W&L WOMEN'S SOCCER PICKED THIRD IN ODAC PRESEASON POLL

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's soccer team was picked to finish third in the 2001 ODAC Preseason Coaches Poll released Thursday morning.

The Generals received 30 points. Lynchburg, who defeated W&L, 2-1, in triple-overtime last season to win the ODAC Championhsip, received 10 first place votes and sits atop the poll. Roanoke received 26 points, while Virginia Wesleyan and Randolph Macon rounded out the top five teams.

W&L first-year head coach Neil Cunningham will welcome back four All-ODAC selections from last season's conference runners-up. Senior captains Katie Bidwell and Drew Powers, as well as junior captain Jenny Thomas all return at midfield. Sophomore Fontaine Marcoux, the Generals leading scorer and a First Team All-ODAC selection last season, returns at forward.

The Generals open their season on September 7 with an 4:00 pm home match against Lynchburg.
