LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's soccer team is ranked 10th in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III Top 25 Preseason Poll released on Wednesday afternoon.
The Generals are coming off a record-setting season which saw them win a school record 19 games and lose only two. Their season ended with a 1-0 loss to Christopher Newport in the NCAA South Regional Final.
Head coach Rolf Piranian, the reigning ODAC Coach of the Year, returns seven starters from the 2000 squad. Leading the way are five All-ODAC selections in junior goalkeeper Tim Foley (Darnestown, Md./Georgetown Prep), senior fullback and All-American Paul Wallace (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry), senior forward Andrew Grimes (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay), junior fullback Paul Negron (Massapequa Park, N.Y./St. John the Baptist), and sophomore Phil Miller (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood), who was also named ODAC Co-Rookie of the Year.
The Generals open their season on September 8 with an 11:00 am contest at Catholic University.
