LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior sweeper Paul Wallace
(Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) was named to the Division III
NSCAA/Adidas Men's Soccer Third-Team All America squad on Friday
morning. The NSCAA/Adidas All-America teams are voted on by members
of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Wallace, who was a Second-Team selection as a junior, is the first W&L player in school history to earn a repeat selection on the All-America squad.
Wallace spearheaded a W&L defense that allowed just 1.1 goals per game. He started all 17 games for the Generals and tallied six points on two goals and two assists. Wallace scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Hampden-Sydney in the ODAC semifinals. In his four years with the W&L soccer program, Wallace recorded a total of 26 points on eight goals and 10 assists.
W&L finished the season with an overall record of 12-4-1 and won the ODAC regular season championship with an 8-1 conference record. The Generals saw their season come to an end in the ODAC Championship, as they were defeated by Roanoke, 3-2.
Wallace was named the ODAC Player of the Year for the 2001 season. He also earned a spot on the All-ODAC First-Team for the third time in his career. As a freshman, Wallace earned the ODAC Rookie of the Year award.
