WALLACE AND MURPHY NAMED ALL-SOUTH
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee placed two players on the
National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South
Men's Soccer Team announced recently.
Senior sweeper Paul Wallace (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) was named to the First Team, while junior forward Brad Murphy (Mantoloking, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) earned Second Team accolades.
Wallace was named the ODAC Player of the Year and a Third Team All-American after leading his squad to a 12-4-1 overall record and the ODAC regular season title. He also garnered First Team All-ODAC honors for the third time in his career.
Wallace spearheaded a W&L defense that allowed just 1.1 goals per game. He started all 17 games for the Generals and tallied six points on two goals and two assists. Wallace scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Hampden-Sydney in the ODAC semifinals. In his four years with the W&L soccer program, Wallace recorded a total of 26 points on eight goals and 10 assists.
Murphy, who also started all 17 games, had an outstanding season for the Generals this fall. One of the most dangerous attackers in the conference, Murphy finished second on the squad in goals scored (6) and points (15). Murphy was also a First Team All-ODAC honoree for the 2001 season.
