LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee athletic director Mike Walsh has announced the appointment of Amy Schuckert as head women's cross country and assistant men's and women's track & field coach. Schuckert will begin her duties effective July 1.
"We are most fortunate to have Amy Schuckert join our staff as women's cross country coach," said Walsh. "Amy is already an accomplished coach as well as an accomplished runner. No doubt, she will continue the high level of success attained by our women's cross country team."
Schuckert comes to Washington and Lee after serving as a graduate assistant men's and women's cross country and track & field coach at Pittsburg State (Kan.) for the past two seasons.
At Pittsburg State, Schuckert helped lead the Gorrilla women's cross country team to a 12th place finish at the 2000 NCAA Division II Championships. She also helped guide the men's track team to the 2000 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship.
A 1999 graduate of Allegheny College with a bachelor of arts in English, Schuckert was a two-year captain of the cross country and track teams. She was a six-time NCAA national qualifier for the track team and a two-time qualifier in cross country. Schuckert earned All-American honors in the 800 meters and was a 12-time conference champion in track and cross country. She also earned all-conference honors an astounding 18 times and was a six-time conference MVP. She was named the 1999 Allegheny Female Athlete of the Year.
