LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team holds the No. 1 spot in the USILA Division III poll after tieing for the top spot last week.
The Generals (8-0) received all 10 first place votes in the poll after defeating No. 15 Roanoke, 16-4, and No. 17 Marymount, 11-5. Middlebury, the previous No.1 and defending national champion, fell to Springfield College (23-10) on Saturday afternoon.
W&L has outscored its opponents 103-33 thus far and is allowing only 18.8 shots per game.
Following W&L in the poll is Gettysburg (7-1), a team the Generals beat 8-7 back on March 10. Nazareth (5-0), Salisbury State (9-1), Springfield (4-1), Cortland State (5-2), Middlebury (4-1), Ithaca (5-0), Ohio Wesleyan (2-3) and Denison (4-3) constitute the remainder of the Top 10.
Washington and Lee hosts Greensboro College today, April 4, at 3:30 pm. The Generals will then break for exams before returning to action on April 14 against Guilford. Faceoff for that game is set for 1:30 pm at Wilson Field.
