MEN'S LACROSSE RANKED SEVENTH IN THE FACEOFF MAGAZINE PRESEASON POLL
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The spring season is just around the corner and the preseason accolades for the Washington and Lee men's lacrosse program are already rolling in. W&L is ranked seventh in the preseason rankings by Faceoff '99 Men's College Lacrosse Yearbook and three Generals are cited as preseason All-Americans in the publication.
Leading the preseason top 10 is Nazareth, followed by defending national champion Washington College, Salisbury State, Ohio Wesleyan, Gettysburg, Hampden-Sydney, W&L, Roanoke, Middlebury, and Ithaca.
Junior attackman Colin Dougherty (Timonium, Md./Loyola) is tabbed as a third team All-America selection after posting 57 points on 30 goals and 27 assists last season. Sophomore midfielder Matt Dugan (Rockaway, N.J./Mountain Lakes) is an honorable mention selection as is sophomore defenseman Pete Iwancio (Baltimore, Md./Loyola).
Dugan set a new W&L freshman scoring record last season, tallying 56 points on 32 goals and 24 assists, while Iwancio scored two goals and helped anchor a defense that allowed just 7.52 goals per game.
W&L returns 24 letterwinners and 13 starters to the fold this season after going 13-3 overall, 5-1 in the ODAC, and advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament last season.
