Four W&L Women's Lax Players Named Pre-season All-Americans
LEXINGTON, VA. -- Washington and Lee's women's lacrosse team has been honored with four players being named to College Lacrosse USA's preseason All-America Team. Each of the honorees were named to the honorable mention team. The Generals are defending champions of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Last season, they posted a record of 13-3 and 8-0 in the ODAC.
Sophomore attack Liz Borges (Winchester, Mass./ Winchester) is coming off an outstanding freshman season in which she finished third on the team in goals scored (33) and tied for second in total points scored (45). She was named Freshman of the Year of the W&L athletic department.
Junior goalkeeper Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, Fla./ Dr. Phillips) also comes off a spectacular 1998 season. Jernigan broke the school record for single season saves with 210. In her first full season as starting goalkeeper, she helped win 13 games for the Generals.
Senior defender and tri-captain Kimmy Lubin (Wimington, Del./ Lawrenceville,N.J.) helped anchor a defense that allowed only 7.1 goals per game in 1998. For her efforts she was named to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's second team.
Senior defender and tri-captain Cory Mettee (Baltimore, Md./ Notre Dame Prep) also helped anchor the W&L defense last season for 11 games, before she left to study abroad.
The Generals will open their defense of the ODAC crown on March 3, when they host Hollins at 4:30 p.m.
