FOREST, Va. — The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its Track & Field Athletes of the Week on Monday for the week ending March 18, and Washington and Lee had three competitors honored.
Junior Alex Dolwick (Apex, N.C./GRACE Christian School) was named the Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, senior Dash Dericks (Waveland, Ind./The American School in Switzerland) garnered the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week accolade and senior Kaleigh Hinton (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) earned the Women’s Track Athlete of the Week honor.
Dolwick finished first out of 19 competitors in the 10,000m on Friday at the W&L Carnival. He crossed the finish line in 32:01.34, which set a new career best. It was almost two minutes faster than his previous personal best (33:50.90). Dolwick's time is the fastest in the ODAC this year and the second-fastest in Division III.
Dericks had two Top 3 finishes at the Carnival this past weekend. He took second in the discus and third in the javelin. In the discus, he recorded a mark of 42.72m, which is the best throw in the ODAC this year and the 13th-best in Division III. In the javelin, he notched a mark of 51.15m, which is the second-best in the league this season.
Hinton had two individual second-place finishes and a third-place showing as part of a relay this past weekend. Hinton claimed second in the 100m hurdles with a personal-best time of 16.00. It is the fastest time in the ODAC this year. She then took second in the 400m hurdles in 1:06.49. It is the fastest mark in the conference this season and the 11th-fastest in Division III.
Hinton was also the first leg of the 4x400m relay that finished third in 4:14.54, which is the fastest time in the ODAC this year.
The men’s and women’s track and field teams return to action this Friday and Saturday at the Lynchburg Jack Toms Invitational.
