FOREST, Va. — The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 19 and Washington and Lee had two track and field athletes honored.
Senior Dana Lee (Nashville, Tenn./St. Cecilia Academy) was named the ODAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, and junior Dash Dericks (Spring, Texas/The American School in Switzerland) garnered the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week award.
Lee won two events at the W&L Track and Field Carnival this past weekend. She finished first in the 200m with a time of 25.74. She also took the top spot in the triple jump at 11.07m (36'4.00").
Lee's mark in the triple jump is the best in the ODAC this season and the fifth-best in Division III. Her time in the 200m is the fastest in the conference and seventh-best in Division III.
Dericks won the javelin and finished second in the discus at the Carnival. He claimed first in the javelin with a career-best throw of 55.90m (183'5.00"). He also notched a career-best mark of 43.63m (143'2.00") in the discus.
Both of Dericks' throws register as the top marks in the ODAC this season. His throw in the javelin is ninth-best in Division III, and his toss in the discus is the 14th-best in Division III.
The men’s and women’s track and field teams next compete at the Jack Toms Invitational hosted by Lynchburg on Saturday.
