Three Generals Earn ODAC Athlete of the Week Accolades

FOREST, Va. – Three Washington and Lee student-athletes have been selected as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 20.

Senior Keegan Dolan (Bethesda, Md. / Landon) was named the ODAC Baseball Player of the Week, sophomore Michael Holt (Henrico, Va. / Mills Godwin) was selected as the ODAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week and first-year Lauren Procaccino (Manhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset) was selected as the ODAC Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week.

Dolan helped lead the W&L baseball team to a 4-2 record for the week.  The center fielder batted .345 (10-29) with three home runs, one double, seven RBI and two steals.  He also amassed a .367 on-base percentage and a .690 slugging percentage.

In the second game of the doubleheader at Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday, Dolan hit two homers in the 9-5 win, which gave him an ODAC-best 10 on the year in just 29 games. The 10 home runs broke the W&L single-season record of nine, which had been done three times previously. Dolan also moved into fourth in career home runs (17) at W&L and into a tie for fourth in steals (31).

Procaccino registered 11 goals and two assists in helping lead the women’s lacrosse team to a 3-0 record during the week.  The attacker exploded for a career-high five goals in a 20-4 win over Sweet Briar on Tuesday, four of which came in a span of 4:33 in the first period.

In a 20-0 win over Hollins on Thursday, Procaccino notched two goals and two assists, including one free position marker.  In the final game of the week against Bridgewater on Saturday, she recorded four more goals to lead the Generals to a 16-9 victory. She finished the week with an 84.6 shooting percentage, three ground balls and four caused turnovers. 

Holt also had a fantastic week as the Generals’ men’s tennis team finished 3-1 overall.  He went 3-1 at No. 2 singles, with the lone loss coming to a singles player from Emory (4-6, 7-6, 10-8) who was ranked fourth in the Atlantic South Region.

In doubles, Holt went 4-0 while teaming with junior Taylor Shamshiri (Austin, Texas / ATA College Prep) at No. 1 doubles.  Included in the win total was an 8-3 triumph over the doubles team from Emory that was ranked second in the region.

For the year, Holt has posted a 17-6 singles record and a 21-4 doubles mark.

The W&L baseball team (18-11) has earned the No. 4 seed for the ODAC Tournament which begins on Thursday in Lynchburg, Va.  The Generals will face fifth-seeded Bridgewater to open the tournament at 6:00 pm.

The W&L women’s lacrosse team is 14-2 overall and completed the conference season with a 10-0 mark.  The Generals are the top seed and receive a bye to the semifinals, where W&L will host an undecided opponent on Saturday.

The Generals’ men’s tennis team (15-4) also received the top seed for the conference tournament and returns to action on Saturday in the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament.  W&L will take on fourth-seeded Bridgewater at 2:00 pm at Sweet Briar College.
